A Dedication to Spinoza's "God or Nature"

One fundamental substance
From which all things are made.
Existing as existence,
The unchanging and the change.

This universal essence;
Eternally it goes on.
Its process is conatus *
From the Bang to a baby born.

In that it is all things
We may call it God.
Yet this is God or Nature.
Its not as the Bible says it was...

No inherent Good or Evil
It does not judge, it perseveres.
It does not speak to prophets;
No voices whispered in peoples ears.

A vision of reason and logic
With a critical eye for what is true;
In its heretical boldness
It helped bring about the new.

It undermined authority
And said we can think free.
Reason over ancient text
To the Enlightenment, modernity.

We may call it God or Nature;
A truth, a holy light.
The One manifest as the Many.
As the Earth, the stars and all life.
